Literature Text

Look at the china doll.
Isn't she beautiful?
Her eyes, glassy and the blue-gray
Of the sky after a storm, seem to be on
The brink of tears permanently.
Her painted-on smile tries to move,
But if she tries to frown, she is threatened.
"You want your pretty little hands smashed?"
She squeaks in fear and stays still, quivering
But trying not to show it.
"Show them how smart you are," the puppeteer
Commands, his voice hinting at how much is at stake.
She moves mechanically, her joints restrained by fear.
"Look at her take the test! She didn't even study!"
The puppeteer crows.  She puts the paper in the
Machine.
*DING!*
"One wrong?!" roars the puppeteer.  His hand swoops down
To attack her cheek.  Her porcelain skin cracks, but yet she
Smiles, still on the verge of tears.
"You're a failure!" spits the puppeteer.  He takes a hammer to
Her fragile chest and shatters the area where her heart should be.
"Get out of my sight!" He dumps her in the nearest landfill,
And though she is dirty, her smile never fades, and
A single crystal tear rolls down her delicate cheek.
But no one will ever know.  It is forbidden for them to know.
This is dedicated to all those who feel or have been brought up to hide their feelings, or who have the stress to be perfect, for those who think they are not allowed to feel. No one can be perfect, and no one can hide everything forever. Eventually something will crack, and when it does, the spit will hit the fan, and nothing will ever be the same. I speak from experience. Don't ever be afraid. Feelings are normal. If anyone needs someone to listen, write me a note. I'm extremely good at listening.

The emotions within this poem is strong and very powerful. The contrast of this piece sets the mood for the whole poem for it engages me as the reader to deeply feel the true emotions expressed...I really enjoyed the creative flow of words and ideas painted.
